The Weird Tunnel at Detroit Metropolitan Airport

175 - Copy

I live in New York but grew up in Michigan, and I spend a lot of time flying between the two states. My parents live in Alpena, a small town about a five-hour drive north of Detroit. To get there, you transfer at Detroit Metropolitan Airport to a tiny twin-engine plane for a 45-minute flight into town. When you arrive at DTW, you get to walk through a tunnel, which connects the terminals underground. They sync colored lights to strobe in time with trippy, ambient music, as you go through the tunnel, the lights shift and pulse. It’s quite an experience. (Don’t ever, ever go through it while drunk. Fair warning.)
